Maria Dobbs was born in 1997 in Norristown, Pennsylvania. In 2020, she obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art with a concentration in painting from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. In 2024, she received her Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting at MICA. Dobbs’s work has been exhibited in Baltimore, MD and Philadelphia, PA. In Dobbs's work she explores themes related to the passage of time, the impermanence of existence, and detachment from reality. Maria Dobbs creates charcoal drawings and oil paintings of interior spaces that feature windows casting sunbeams, resulting in unexpected shadows on the architecture. These shadows obscure the architecture, resulting in an unsettling environment.
